A Question of Literacy was developed in 2008 to help non-literacy-specialist VET trainers better understand the literacy issue, learn how to address it more effectively in their training programs, and learn how to help trainees with literacy difficulties.

Originally produced to assist trainers in the Security Industry, this CD-based resource is in fact relevant to trainers and RTOs across all industries.   The topics covered are:
  
  • What is literacy?
  • Identifying literacy requirements in Training Packages
  • Using language more effectively
  • Identifying the required literacy levels
  • Linking the Training Package to the workplace
  • Supporting trainees with literacy needs
  • Putting it all together
 
It presents the information using workplace-based digital photostories, graphics and brief animations, and also contains:
  
  • a reference folder of printable documents including a simplified Language, Literacy and Numeracy Scale; and
  • a facilitator's guide   

A Question of Literacy can be viewed individually on a desktop computer or through a dataprojector for larger groups.
